The exercise was to get us to go beyond our family and frinds and be able to show others we are empathic listeners, seeing and caring for others, we can be open heartedness, sensitice, generous and emptional to all the people we come in contact with. In the Dhammapada "Hatred cannot co exist with loving-kindness, and dissipates if supplanted with thoughts based on loving-kindness."

That is so true, hatred cannot coexist with loving-kindness. How did you do on your integral assessment?
ReplyDeleteHi, I find that in this world so many of the people I come into contact with are not truly listening, just hearing words that are spoken. I try to have deep conversations with some people, and it seems all they can do is hear me, and await their chance to talk and get their point across. To truly care about what someone is saying and try to understand where they are coming from is a gift that everyone can receive if they take the time to listen and genuinely care. I like the quotation that you posted, because there is no room for hatred when loving-kindness has already been accepted by the individual. Hate is a strong word, and I have tried to use the word dislike when I catch myself saying " I hate this or that". It is funny how the word dislike is actually a word I dislike to use, hence I have trained myself to not use the word hate anymore.
